Here is an extract from an email received from Fr. Vaughn.
At present the NZ Bishops are thinking that WYD11 will be organized more at Diocesan level. At present I’d hope that we would take maybe 50 from this Diocese. It would be fair to say that we wouldn’t take anyone as part of the Diocesan group who was under 18. To be honest, the NZ Bishops aren’t reviewing WYD until November and therefore nothing more can really be said till next year.
So I think it would be best if we did not as yet pay the deposit until it was decided what was happening and what the conditions were going to be. I do not know, nor do I think we could find out, if the age would be any different if there was a parent/guardian attending as well, until next year. I know this would put more pressure on financially towards the end by reducing the amount of time for fundraising but we need to sit back at wait until the NZ Bishops review WYD Sydney. This would be disappointing for a lot of the kids if they cannot attend but it is better to get it sorted now before we go to the effort of fundraising and paying deposits etc. It is great to know there are such keen kids out there.
